West Yorkshire Bat Group has members with a variety of different backgrounds, interests and from different professions. As a group we are interested in researching, recording, understanding the behaviours, distribution and habitats of bats in order to further our knowledge of these fascinating and elusive creatures.

Join the Bat group to discover more about the world of bats

We have a range of activities that our volunteers can participate in:

  • Bat surveys – using a bat detector to understand the size of bat roosts or movements
  • Roost surveys – exploring the roost to understand more about the roosting habits
  • Education – providing talks to groups such as charities, schools or attending fetes to educate people about bats
  • Bat walks – walking with groups of people and bat detectors to observe bats at night
  • Bat care – provide essential first aid and care for injured or orphaned bats
